Agnes I. Funk died Friday, January 12, 2007, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was 87 years old.
Agnes was born on July 15, 1919 at Eldorado, Nebraska to Jacob and Aganetha (Klippenstein) Tessman. In 1941, when Agnes was 22 years old, she left Nebraska and moved to California. Agnes worked in cafes and hotels before getting a job at the Navy dry dock.
On October 21, 1944, she married Maurice Funk in Tijuana, Baja California Norte, Mexico. They moved to Catskill, New York in 1946 after Maurice was discharged from the Navy. They later moved to Michigan. Agnes was employed at Great Lake Steel Company. In 1951, the family moved back to Nebraska near Hastings and Agnes became employed with the ammunition depot. When new job opportunities became available for Maurice in 1956, the family moved to Massena, New York and later to Albany, New York.
In March of 1960, Agnes with her four children moved back to Nebraska. She lived in Culbertson and worked in cafes. She moved to McCook in 1967 and became employed at Hillcrest Nursing Home and worked there until her retirement in 1978.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Jacob and Aganetha Tessman; one infant son, Malcolm Funk; four brothers, Jack, Frank, David and Henry Tessman; and six sisters, Martha Rath, Marie Peters, Rosalie Porath, Anne Korell, Hazel Korell, and Helen Cook.
Survivors include her son, Bernard Funk and wife, Rose, of Syracuse, Utah ; three daughters, Judith Leone of Tucson, AZ, Marilynn and husband, Tom O'Neil, of McCook and Charlene and husband, Rick Buckley, of McCook; one sister, Irene Pope of McCook; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given in her name.
A Memorial service was on Monday, January 15, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Inurnment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
