Albert E. White, age 89, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.
Albert was born in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire on April 1, 1924 to parents Joseph W. and Rena V. (Bowering) White. He was one of 9 children. Albert graduated from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro and then went on to attend Dickerson College in Pennsylvania.
On October 20, 1944 Albert married Dorothy D. Stewart in McCook. To this union three daughters were born; Judy, Brenda and Terri. The family moved from Wolfeboro to McCook in 1954. Over the years, Albert worked as a carpenter as well as a maintenance supervisor for the State of Nebraska's Department of Roads. Albert held a pilot's license and enjoyed flying his Cessna with Dorothy by his side. He also enjoyed wood working and celebrating the many accomplishments of his children and grand children.
Albert was a Decorated World War II Veteran, proudly serving his country as a sharpshooter as well as assistant flight engineer and waist gunner on the B29. He was Honorably Discharged in 1945. During his years of service, Albert received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Albert was a member of First Congregational Church of McCook, VFW, American Legion, Elks Lodge and Past Master Counselor of the "Order of Demolay".
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy D. White of McCook, NE; daughters, Judy A. (White) Anderson of McCook, NE, Brenda J. (White) O'Neil of Edmonds, WA, Terri L. (White) Colling of Kearney, NE; brothers, Alvin R. White of Wolfeboro, NH and Retired Col. Fredrick B. White of Port Townsend, WA; sisters, Rena (White) MacMartin of New Braunfels, TX, and Martha (White) Baxter of Teton Village, WY; grandchildren, Leslie A. (Ray) Ragojo, Michelle L. (Ray) Parsons, PHD, Major Kelly M. O'Neal, Captain Brian M. O'Neal, Katie E. (O'Neal) Figg, Eric Albert O'Neal, Christopher W. Colling, M.D. and Lisa M. (Colling) Adkins. M.D.; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph W. White, Sr. and Rena V. (Bowering) White; brothers, Joseph W White, Jr. and George W. White; and two sisters, Ella M. (White) Glidden and Violet White.
A graveside service was held on Sunday, September 29th at 2 PM in the Wolfeboro, New Hampshire Cemetery.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. on September 19, 2016 at First Congregational Church in McCook with Pastor Steve Bales officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given in his name, Albert White Family, PO Box 56, McCook, NE 69001. The family will send them to the Wounded Warrior's Project.
