Alma Katherine Miller

Alma Katherine Miller, age 92, of McCook, Nebraska passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Community Hospital in McCook.

Alma was born April 24, 1922 in Culbertson, Nebraska to parents Peter and Katherine Anna (Kindsvater) Frick. The family made their home in Culbertson where Alma graduated from Culbertson High School in 1940.

On August 21, 1943 Alma married Raymond A. Miller in Oberlin, Kansas. To this union five children were born. Alma was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson as well as the VFW Auxiliary, the UMW, and Jolly Jones Extension Club. She was a volunteer at the Hitchcock County Food Pantry, a UMYF Sponsor, a Red Cross Volunteer and also served as a Girl Scout Leader. She began working in the infant nursery at St. Catherine's Hospital when several years of hail damage to the family's farm crops forced her to work outside the home. She became the head cook for the Culbertson Schools.

Alma was very artistic, creating oil paintings, stain glass designs, ceramics, and needle work. She also enjoyed playing card games and playing the piano for special occasions.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Miller of Culbertson; and eight brothers, Peter, Ruben, Edward, Harry, Jake, Elmer, two infants, Aleck and John; and son-in-law, Cliff Rigg.

Alma is survived by her son Leland (Barb) Miller of Culbertson; daughters Ramona (Jerry) Kotschwar of Culbertson, Kasey (Mike) Elgert of Lincoln, NE, Jo Bunstock of Lincoln, NE, and Deb Gilliland of Lincoln, NE; sister in law, Ruth Hesseltine of Clockamas, Oregon; twelve grandchildren; and twenty five great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15 from 2 to 8PM at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 16 at 10:30 AM at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with Rev. John Lewis officiating.

Burial will follow in the Culbertson Cemetery
