Amber Dawn Husted, age 28, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.
Amber was born July 11, 1983 in McCook, Nebraska to parents Dennis and Karen (Schenck) Hiatt. Amber attended school in McCook, graduating from McCook High School in 2002. Following her graduation, Amber attended McCook Community College where she obtained her degree in Criminal Justice. Amber then went on to attend the Law Enforcement Academy in Grand Island, NE. After completing her education in 2005, Amber began working for the Red Willow County Sherriff's Department. In 2011, Amber became the director of the McCook Humane Society.
On December 21, 2011, Amber married husband Patrick Husted. The couple made their home in McCook. Amber enjoyed fishing, swimming and lifeguarding. Amber was also a swim instructor at the McCook YMCA. She enjoyed spending her evenings gazing at the stars and had a special love for animals.
Amber was preceded in death by her grandmother Mary Schenck and her grandfather Red Hiatt.
She is survived by her husband Patrick Husted of McCook; parents Dennis and Karen Hiatt of McCook; father and mother-in-law David and Ramona Husted of Henry, NE; grandparents Denny and Dixie Kofler, Bill Schenck and Betty Hiatt all of McCook; her husband's grandparents Leon and Nancy Urdiales of Morrill, NE; and her three sisters Brooke and husband, Brian Robinson and son Domonic of Lincoln, NE, Marie Hiatt and children Tesa and Graci Nelson of McCook and Kirstie Hiatt of Kearney, NE. Amber is also survived by a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, June 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook, Nebraska with Father Gary Brethour, officiating.
