Anita Christine Callan died Friday, March 21, 2008 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. She was 83 years old.
Anita was born on August 24, 1924 in Red Willow County, Nebraska to Gustave and Lydia (Schaffert) Unger. She attended school at McCook Public Schools.
On October 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Dareld "Neal" Callan in McCook. To this union four children were born. They made their home in McCook for a short time until Neal's job transferred them to northeastern Nebraska. They later moved to Alliance and resided there until Neal's retirement. They returned to McCook in 1986.
She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook and Alliance Eagle's Auxiliary. She volunteered many hours at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She enjoyed dancing, visiting with friends, playing cards and bingo, cooking and baking, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Gustave and Lydia Unger; and daughter, Sharon Brennemann.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Neal Callan of McCook; daughter, Sandy and husband, Mark Hissam, of Alliance; two sons, Randy Callan of McCook and Ronald Callan and wife, Cynthia, of Kearney; two brothers, Melvin Unger and wife, Glenva, of McCook and Willis Unger and wife, Marlene, of Apache Junction, AZ; three sisters, Evelyn and husband, Dale Wagner of Thornton, CO, Erma and husband, Ralph Greenlee, of Spearfish, SD and Phyllis and husband, Harold Clapp, of McCook; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials were to be given in her name.
Memorial services were Wednesday, March 26, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Inurnment will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at a later time.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
