Biography

Anna Marie (Bellender) Slater died peacefully on her 83 birthday, Thursday, November 26th at the Cambridge Manor in Cambridge.

She was born November 26, 1926 to Adam and Catherine (Bathauer) Bellender in Brush, Colo. She was the seventh child born of 10 children. She had seven sisters and two brothers. She attended school at Brush, Colo, and worked on her father's farm.

On December 4, 1946, she was united in marriage to Thomas Slater, in Brush, Colo.

During her lifetime she had many jobs including Lord's Hardware, Hillcrest Nursing Home, homemaker and mother to eight children.

She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Gold Star Mother's and a past member of the Red Willow County Posse.

Preceding her in death were: her parents, her husband, Thomas Leroy Slater, three sons, James, Daniel and Mark; one grandson, Christopher Slater.

Survivors include: her long time friend and companion, Howard Baumbach of Cambridge, four sons, Ronald and Linda Slater of Estes Park, Colo., Jerry and Marilyn Slater, Gary Slater and Mike Slater, all of Indianola and one daughter Cathy and Randy Dean of Indianola; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Pete and Veldonna Bellender of Fort Morgan, Colo., Adam Bellender of Portland Ore., seven sisters, Virginia and Ron Toepfer and Mary Bauer of Fort Morgan, Colo., Rosey Price of Fort Collins, Colo., Gertie and Junior Stratton of Brush, Colo., Molly Sack of Brighton, Colo., Katie Schwint of Lincoln City, Ore. and Helen and Leonard Schott of Sterling, Colorado.

Memorials may be given to the Indianola American Legion Auxiliary.

Visitation will be Saturday 9 - Noon, Sunday, 4-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home in McCook. Friends may sign her book at the funeral home or send condolences online at www.carpenterbreland.com.

Rosary will be in at St. Catherine's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 30th with Father Thomas McGuire officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery in Indianola.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
