Arthur Raymond Stock died Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at his rural Culbertson home. He was 76 years old.
Arthur was born on May 10, 1928, in Hitchcock County, Nebraska to William Winton and Erma Fern (Matson) Stock. He graduated from Culbertson High School in 1946 and attended Veterans Agriculture School in Hayes Center.
On September 17, 1950 he married Dixie Marie Marks at Trenton, Nebraska. Shortly after their marriage, Arthur joined the US Army on December 12, 1950. He was a Sergeant in Command of the 12th Unit of Company D, 56th Amphibian Tank and Tractor Battalion stationed in Japan during the Korean War, entering the 10th Infantry Division of the 86th Platoon at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was honorably discharged on December 24, 1952.
After Arthurs discharge they made their home on a farm south of Culbertson where they farmed until the time of his death. To this marriage three children were born. Arthur was President of the Grove Cemetery Association for many years. He was also a member of the Culbertson Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Fern Stock; and nephew, Russell Daugherty.
Survivors include his wife, Dixie Stock of Culbertson; daughters, Linda Dirks of Ludell, Kansas and Kathy Scott of North Platte; son, Dale Stock and wife, Shauna, of Culbertson; sisters, Alta Fahrenbruch of Norton, KS and Lavena and husband, Russell Marks, of Trenton; five grandchildren, Stacy Hurst, Brandon Dirks, Allen Scott, and Brady Stock; three great-grandchildren, Jason Scott, Breanna Hurst and Kaylie Scott; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given in his name.
Visitation will be today until 8:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friends may go online at www.carpeneterbreland.com to extend condolences.
Funeral service will be Monday, December 6, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Johnny Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Grove Cemetery south of Culbertson with Military Committal.
