Barbara R. Bortner, of McCook died Friday, March 30, 2007 at Community Hospital. She was 82 years old.
Barbara was born on April 23, 1924, at McCook, to Fredrick and Barbara (Bauer) Schlecht. She attended McCook High School.
On April 4, 1948, she married Melvin Bortner in McCook. To this union two children were born. They made their home on a farm north of McCook where Barbara helped with the farm work and was a homemaker.
Barbara was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women Missionary League, Red Willow Ladies Extension Club and Good Sam's Club.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Frederick and Barbara Schlecht; five brothers, Chris, John, Fred, William and Gustave Schlecht; and four sisters, Mae Carlson, Kathryn Schilz, Betty Christianson and Lydia Dovark.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Melvin Bortner of McCook; son, Bruce Bortner of North Platte; daughter, Cynthia and husband, Larry Ruffner, of Bellevue; two sisters-in-law, Lucile Culp of Chandler, AZ and Doris and husband, Everett Mosher, of McCook; four grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Memorials may be given in her name to KNGN Radio Station.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 3, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Brad Rick officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
