Barbara Joan Hinz died Saturday, September 06, 2008, at Community Hospital in McCook. She was 72 years old.

Barbara was born in McCook on December 8, 1935, to Roland R. and Doris L. (Redd) Hollars. She graduated from McCook High School in 1953. She continued her education at McCook Junior College and graduated with an Associate’s Degree.

She married Donald Hinz on May 28, 1961, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural McCook. They made their home in McCook where Barbara was employed at the Bureau of Reclamation as a secretary to the project manager. After many years at the Bureau, she chose to stay at home and raise her children. She later became a secretary for Harmon Grain Products.

Barbara enjoyed being in her flower and vegetable garden. She also enjoyed cooking as well as spending time with her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her infant son, Kevin; parents, Roland and Doris Hollars; step-mother, Shirley (Maddox) Hollars; maternal grandparents, Frank and Doris Redd and paternal grandparents, Samuel and Myrtle Hollars; and special aunt and uncle, John M. and Clara Lee.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Donald Hinz of McCook; son, Troy Hinz and wife, Brenda, of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Tawny and husband, Carl Blatz, of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Sharon L. and husband, Ronald Crowe, of McCook; brother, Mark Hollars and wife, Sharon (Smith) Hollars, of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Noah, Elijah and Benjamin; nephew, Kerry Crowe and his children, McKenzie and Madison; cousin Norma Whisler; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Graveside services were Monday, September 8, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Schnakenberg officiating.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
