Benito Garcia, Sr., died Monday, December 8, 2008 at Community Hospital in McCook. He was 95 years old.
Benito was born on March 21, 1913, in Manchester, Kansas to Jose R. and Maria (Pelagio) Garcia.
He married Maria Lucille Rodriguez on July 27, 1937 in McCook. They made their home in McCook where they raised their four children. Ben was a local construction contractor for over 60 years. He also taught at the McCook Job Corp.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. In 1981, they were the recipients of Heritage Days Honor Family. Ben loved dancing, going to Mexican Fiesta's, fishing and gardening. He was devoted to his wife loving and caring for her for 68 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Jose and Maria Garcia; his wife, Lucille in June of 2005; four brothers, Tommy, Jesse, Phil and Bonifiacio; and two sisters, Mary and Juna.
Survivors include his three sons, Robert Garcia of Woodriver, Benito and Marleen Garcia of McCook, Joe and Gloria Garcia of McCook; one daughter, Frances and Sam Paz, of McCook; sister, Lupe Gil of Abilene, KS; 20 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Memorials were to be given in his name.
Rosary took place Wednesday, December 10, 6:30 p.m. at the Carpenter Breland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, December 11, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
