Biography

Bettie Jean Cave, age 86, of McCook, Nebraska died Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the McCook Community Hospital. Bettie had just recently moved to McCook from, Frisco, Texas.

Bettie was born on August 11, 1924 to parents Arthur and Bessie (Young) Hawkins in Goss, Missouri. She was one of four children born to this union. Bettie attended school in Holiday, Missouri graduating around 1942. She then went on to attend Chillicothe Business School, in Chillicothe, Missouri.

Bettie married Robert Atkins of Centralia, Missouri on August 24, 1945. The couple was blessed with five children; Robert Michael, Linda Diane, Steven Charles, Chris Allen, and Kevin Scott Atkins. Their family made residences in multiple locations including Carey, Ohio, Parkersburg & Vienna, West Virginia, and eventually Centralia, Missouri. Robert Atkins passed away on November 4, 1990.

Bettie married William (Bill) Cave in Fulton, Missouri and resided in that area for a number of years working for the Bechtel Corporation performing administrative and secretarial duties.

Over the years, Bettie enjoyed reading, church, biblical studies, quilting, and knitting.
Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur who passed away on April 14, 1973 and Bessie who passed away in 2003 at an age of 104; her first husband Robert; two sisters Virginia Fern Haywood and Thelma Ruth Lewis; and an infant child.

Bettie is survived by her children Mike (Sandy) Atkins of Mountville, PA, Linda (Mike) Hemp of Frisco, TX, Steve (Brenda) Atkins of Holts Summit, MO, Chris (Eunice) Atkins of McCook, NE, Kevin (Yadira) Atkins of LaVista, NE, and brother Sonny (Virginia) Hawkins of Paris, Missouri; as well as numerous grand and great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to be given in her name to the Evangelical Free Church.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at the McCook Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Bruce Lester, officiating. Burial will be held Tuesday, September 21 at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, located in Paris, Missouri.
