Biography

Betty Darlene (Larreau) Nelson, age 80, of McCook, went home to be with her maker Tuesday, July 21, 2009.

Betty was born in Oberlin, Kansas to Thomas Earl and Mildred Effie (Cronn) Leonard on October 1, 1928.

She married Kenneth Eugene Larreau in January of1948. To this union three children were born. He preceded her in death. She later married Delbert Nelson in 1973. Betty lived in McCook for 40 years. She was a homemaker and worked in food preparation for the McCook Public Schools.

She was a member of the McCook Eagles and VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, reading, sewing, and caring for her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mildred Leonard; both husbands, Kenneth Larreau and Delbert Nelson; one grandson, Monty Larreau; sisters, Twila Hand, Wanda Leonard, Doris Santiago, JoAnn Davis and Mabel Skult.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Larreau and wife, Connie of Wichita, KS, Jack Larreau of Maywood; daughter, Cheryl Larreau of McCook; one brother, Dennis R. Leonard of Grand Island; six grandchildren, Michelle Reeves, Todd Larreau, Jason Larreau, Seth Larreau, Jonathon Larreau and Zachariah Larreau; two great-grandchildren, Khymber and Khristian Reeves; numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.

Memorials were to be given in her name to Community Hospital Home Health Hospice.

Funeral services were Friday, July 24, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Burial took place in the Oberlin Cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
