Betty L. Potthoff, age 86, of Palisade, NE passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Community Hospital in McCook.
Betty was born April 29, 1935 in Imperial, NE to parents John A. and Bessie E. (Brown) Lawless. She was one of seven siblings who grew up on a farm north of Palisade, graduating from Palisade High School with the Class of 1953.
Betty married Franklin J. Potthoff on April 22, 1956 at the Palisade United Methodist Church where Betty remained an active member her entire life. Frank and Betty spent their entire lives in Palisade. Together they raised two sons and two daughters.
After her graduation she worked for Southwest Public Power District until June of 1957. She stayed home to raise her family and then began her career as the bookkeeper at Palisade Public School in 1966. She worked at the school for 21 years until she retired in September 1987. She then worked for the Pioneer Community Credit Union for several years.
She was a member of the Friendly Neighbor's Extension Club, the Community Service Club, the Pioneer Days Committee and the United Methodist Women. Frank and Betty were investors in the Pioneer Café and volunteered their time to help.
Betty was an avid sports fan and never missed a chance to see her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren compete. She loved reading and spent many hours sharing favorites with her grands.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Franklin Potthoff in 2010; six siblings, Eileen (George) Long, Connie (Les) Hovorka, John (Betty) Lawless, JoAnn (Chet) Mucklow, Bill (Martha) Lawless and Doris (Bob) Phillips.
Those left to celebrate her life include her children, Dennis (Patti) Potthoff of Henderson, NV, Kirk (Ellen) Potthoff of Benkelman, NE, Lori (Wayne) Watkins of McCook and Patty (Pat) Johnson of Daykin, NE; twelve grandchildren Summer Potthoff, Nicole (Mitchell) Thompson, Robbie Potthoff, Ben (Renee) Blecha, Char (Curtis) Sohm, Deidre (Abraham) Baldeh, Alicia (Ryan) Strope, Jessica (Adam) Johnson, Brianna (James) Teel, Allison (Phil) Mcinturf, Miranda Johnson, and Erin Johnson; nineteen great grandchildren Jake, Josh, Madison, Henry, Hattie, Emma, Lila, Jaxon, Trent, Gracelyn, Joseph, Noelle, Eli, Neleigh, Landon, Brayden, Rex, Trey, and Kasen and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and lifelong friends.
