Betty Lou Roper, age 79, of McCook, NE passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019 in Kearney, NE.

Betty was born November 4, 1940 in Grand Junction, CO to parents Harry Raymond and Nora Mae (Curry) Snook.  She grew up in Grand Junction where she graduated from high school in 1958 as Valedictorian.  While attending high school, Betty met and fell in love with Laren (Larry) Alden Roper.  The couple wed on December 28, 1958 in Grand Junction and were blessed with three children.  Betty went on to graduate from Colorado State University with an Associates of Business Degree.

Betty and Larry felt God’s calling to be missionaries and moved to Copper Center, AK in 1976.  They returned to Kremmling, CO in 1984 where they began Refocus Counseling, a not-for-profit Christian counseling ministry.

Wanting to be closer to their children, Betty and Larry moved to Scottsbluff, NE in 1994 where they continued their work in Christian counseling, retiring in 2007.  Due to declining health, they moved to McCook to be near their son, Laren, in 2016.

Betty and Larry attended Grace Chapel, a non-denominational church, while living in Scottsbluff. Betty had a strong faith in Jesus and had a heart for helping others.  She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, dogs, horse and cat, Siggy.  She was a creative artist, musician and author.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a great grandson; and a grandson in law.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Roper of McCook; daughters, Kristi (Randy) Hughes of Wasilla, AK and Celeste (Brad) Avy of Mist, OR; son, Laren (Tanya) Roper of McCook; sisters, Carol (Dick) Cook of Redvale, CO and Harriet (Gary) Jorn of Temecula, CA; seventeen grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren; and one great grandchild due in June.
