Betty Evelyn (Dye) Wortman passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 94, at the Mitchell Care Center in Mitchell, NE. Betty was born on December 5, 1929, at Pender, NE to parents Evelyn (Westgate) and Chauncey Dye of Rosalie, NE.
Betty lived on a farm and attended Parks Country School till she entered Rosalie High School where she graduated as Valedictorian. She attended Wayne State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
On June 12, 1954, Betty married Vernon Albert Wortman at the Rosalie Methodist Church. They lived in Las Vegas, Neveda and Clovis, New Mexico while Vern was a jet fighter pilot. They had three children: Michael, Denise, and Curtis.
Betty organized and was Welcome Wagon Hostess in Geneva, NE and in Fairbury, NE. She taught school in south Sioux City, Lincoln, Fairbury, and McCook. She taught 6th graders and Title One students for 31 years and then retired.
Betty was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, adult Sunday school class, Christian Women’s Club, Better Halves Home Makers Club, Bridge Club, Al-Anon and was a 4-H Leader.
Betty enjoyed traveling all over the country. Along with her family, they travelled to SCS conventions with the camper in Toronto, Canada, New York, Washington D.C. and Oregon. They enjoyed summer camping at several different lakes in their area, boating and skiing. Betty loved going overseas with the senior group to countries such as Israel, Greece, and few others.
Betty enjoyed making crafts, scrapbooks, and photo books, but her most favorite was time spent with her FAMILY.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Brenda) Wortman from Mundey, TX, Denise (Joseph) Yauney of Mitchell, NE and Curtis Wortman of Ogallala, NE; grandchildren, Shelley (Jeff) Wilcynski of Lincoln, NE, Stacy Glaze of Hastings, NE, Trent Wortman of Greeley, CO, Mike Yauney of Omaha, NE, Jon Yauney of Wahpeton, ND and Rachel Hatcher of Casper, WY. Betty is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by parents, Chauncey and Evelyn Dye; brothers, Richard and Victor Dye; and her beloved husband, Vernon Wortman.
Betty leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, always offering a listening ear and wise, caring guidance to her family. She cherished each of her family members and friends deeply and would do anything for them. Her kindness, selflessness and unwavering support will be missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in Betty's name to Valley Hope, 709 West Holme St., Norton, Kansas 67654. That is a special place for Betty and her husband, Vernon. It was where God, and Valley Hope, reunited Betty and Vernon to be together till Vernon died.
A funeral service will be held at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook, NE on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 10:00 am, remarks by Jim Dusatko.
A burial will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook, NE.
