Beulah I. “Cindy” Ethier passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Community Hospital in McCook, NE. She was 94 years old.
Cindy was born on the family farm near Shelton, NE on September 21, 1919 to Fred and Estella (Dean) Wiest.
Cindy’s mother died when she was 1 1/2 years old. She lived with her aunt until the age of six when her father married Marie Dubbs who lovingly adopted her. Cindy was baptized April 17, 1927 in the Methodist Church at Shelton. She graduated from Shelton High School in 1937.
On November 19, 1938 Cindy married Ray “Bus” Tennant in Shelton. To this union two children were born, Sharon and Ronald. Bus and Cindy ran the Trenton Café in Trenton, NE until 1943 when they moved to McCook. He preceded her in death.
On September 16, 1977 she married Art Ethier at Las Vegas, NV. They made their home in McCook.
Cindy was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary both of McCook. She was employed by The J.C. Penney Company in McCook for 35 ½ years, retiring in April of 1990. She also worked for D&S Grocery and Lopers Grocery before working at Penneys.
Following her retirement, Cindy enjoyed camping, her flowers and being with family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Estella Wiest and Fred (Marie) Wiest; her husbands, Bus Tennant and Art Ethier; son-in-law, Aaron Johnson; two grandsons, Roger and Rodney Tennant; great-grandson, Joshua Luckie; sister, Vernice Wiest; as well as her sister and brother in law Dorotha (Barney) Lilienthal.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Johnson of McCook; son, Ronald (Betty) Tennant of Kearney, NE; five grandchildren, Russell and Ralyn Tennant, Kent Johnson, Kristy Cook, and Kyla Luckie; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Memorials may be given to the McCook Humane Society, PO Box 13, McCook, NE, 69001.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 1 to 8 PM at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, January 10, 2014 also at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
