Beverly Elaine (Batt) Kolbet, age 70, of McCook, NE passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at her home in McCook.
Beverly was born on July 28, 1950 in Alliance, NE to John and Frieda (Bowers) Batt. They were raised in the Bayard area. Beverly was only 3 months old when she lost her mother due to a car accident. Her dad kept the family together with the help of his sisters and parents. Three years later, Beverly’s dad remarried Sofia Megas. Sofia was a good and giving mother, the only mother Beverly ever knew. Beverly spent many hours working alongside her parents running the family restaurant, Tiger Den, in Bayard. Beverly graduated from Bayard High School in 1968. She then attended business college in Grand Island, NE.
On January 31, 1970, Leon and Beverly were united in marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bayard. To this union were born three sons: Brian, Christopher and Timothy. They lived in rural Hayes County, NE where Beverly was a homemaker for over 40 years on their family farm. She also spent many hours caring for her aunts for 13 years and was President of St. Ann Catholic Church Altar Society for 20 years. Beverly was an avid gardener and she raised the most beautiful petunias and gladiolas. She passed on her love of gardening to her sons and granddaughters. Beverly and Leon retired and moved to McCook in 2011.
“I want to thank my loving husband of 50 years for the care he gave me, especially the last 2 ½ years. To our sons who I tried to teach to be good citizens, to remember their roots and where they came from. I guess I succeeded at that as I am so very proud of them. To my daughters-in-law, whom I love very much. They have always been so good to me over the years, I couldn’t ask for more. Last but not least, to my granddaughters, lets just say they are the sparkle in my eye!”
Beverly was preceded in death by her father; both of her mothers; grandparents; aunts; uncles; and sisters in law.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Leon Kolbet of McCook; sons, Brian Kolbet of Hayes Center, NE, Chris (Amy) Kolbet and daughters Emma and Claire of Lincoln, NE and Tim (Stacy) Kolbet and their daughter Brooklyn of Grand Island, NE; brother, Richard Batt of Alliance; sister, Sharon Allen of Scottsbluff, NE, aunt Pat Taylor of Concord, CA and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers in law and sisters in law.
