Billie Gene Weiss, age 83, of McCook, NE passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Great Plains Regional Health Center in North Platte, NE.
Bill was born August 17, 1936 in Farnam, NE to Mary B. Weiss. He attended school in Stockville, NE, graduating with the Class of 1953. Following high school, Bill resided in Moorefield, NE.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956 when he was honorably discharged. During that time, Bill earned a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
On May 27, 1956, Bill married Connie (Wood) Weiss in Stockville and was blessed with three children; Don, Murry and Leisa. The family made their home in McCook where Bill worked as a route manager for Rainbow Bread until 1974. He and Connie also co-owned and managed the Royal Motel and the Red Horse Motel until 1979. At that time, Bill went to work for McCook Community College until 1983 when they moved to Coffeyville, KS, owning and operating the Townsman Hotel. In 1989, Bill and Connie moved back to McCook where they began Weiss Motors (1989 – 1997) and Bonanza Restaurant (1992 – 2004).
Bill and Connie were members of the First Congregational Church in McCook. Over the years, Bill enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He was an avid Husker fan as well as a past member of the McCook Elks Club. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved spending time with them. He found humor in teasing his grandkids.
Bill was preceded in death by his mom.
Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Connie Weiss of McCook; two sons, Don (Evelin) Weiss and Murry (Elizabeth) Weiss, all of McCook; daughter, Leisa (Brian) Vaught of Lincoln, NE; as well as seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 5 to 7PM at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 23, 2019, beginning at 10:30AM, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Terry McCorkle, officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will follow in Riverview Cemetery, McCook.
