I was born to Richard Clinton Fitzpatrick and Vesta Elizabeth (Russell) Fitzpatrick in the upstairs bedroom of my grandparents’ home in Aurora, NE on March 31, 1929. It was Easter Sunday. I began school in York, attended Elementary School in Woodbine, IA and Junior High in Fremont. During my Jr year we moved to McCook where I graduated in 1947.
I married Pete Monzon on November 25, 1948 and we have four sons. Pete was a Fireman on the C, B & Q Rail Road and retired from Burlington Northern Rail Road as an engineer in 1989. Pete passed away March 13, 2005.
In 1967 Pete and I bought the Episcopal Parsonage at an auction for $75. We moved the house to an acreage north of the fairgrounds where we remodeled it and made it our home.
Our family has been active in St Patrick’s Church and volunteered in many activities; Scouting, McCook Recycling, 4-H, Heritage Days, The Toy Box, Coat Closet and many other groups. In 1972 Pete and I were honored with the McCook Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award.
I taught a variety of craft classes at McCook Fabric and Crafts. I am a past Officer of the National Association of Wheat Weavers of which I am a Charter Member. I am also a designer in wheat and in 1995 I was invited to submit an original design to decorate the White House Christmas Tree. I also taught classes at the National Conventions and created several original designs that were used as convention centerpieces. I have been published in Gleanings, the NAWW publication and Farm Wife News as well as several newspaper articles written about my wheat weaving.
I was preceded in death by my parents, Richard and Vesta Fitzpatrick and Brothers, John and Bill.
I am survived by my four sons, Peter Michael Monzon of Trinidad, CO, Richard Jerome Monzon of McCook, Timothy Jess and wife Tammy Monzon of McCook and Scott Dominic and wife Terri Monzon of Blair. Still with us are sister-in-law, Juanita Jones of McCook; brother-in-law, Joe “Peanuts” Monzon and wife Brenda of Centennial, CO; brother-in-law, Victor “Chico” Monzon and wife Mary Ellen of McCook; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Fitzpatrick of Lincoln and numerous nieces and nephews.
