Bruce William Atkins died Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the Veteran's Hospital in Omaha. He was 75 years old.

Bruce was born on November 27, 1930, at Malta Ridge, New York to William and Mattie (Long-Caudwell) Atkins. After his high school graduation he entered the United States Army on May 22, 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on March 21, 1957.

On June 19, 1967, he married Emma Parde at Warez, New Mexico. Bruce was a heavy equipment mechanic for Western Engineering of North Platte and McCook Equity as a mechanic for several years. He had lived in the McCook community for the past 40 years. He was a member of the McCook Eagles Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Mattie Atkins; wife, Emma Atkins in 2003; step-son, Virgil Parde; step-son-law, Paul Johnson; and two sisters, Ruth Carpenter and Ilene Atkins.

Survivors include his nieces and nephews, Lorena and Eric Jones of New London, Conn., Donna Delaney, Joe Delaney, and Roy Carpenter all of New York; step-sons, Eldon Parde and wife, Sharon, of McCook and Lelond Parde, and wife, Darlene, of Mira Loma, CA; step-daughter, Marleen and husband, Ben Garcia, of McCook; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Memorial services were Friday, April 21, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment took place at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE at 1:00 p.m.
