Carl R. Jass, age 89, of McCook, NE passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Decatur County Health Systems in Oberlin, KS.
Carl was born May 16, 1928 in Mason City, Iowa to parents Emil and Jean (Pedelty) Jass. He was one of four children born to this union. Carl attended school in Mason City before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp in 1944. Carl proudly served his country during WW II and received a Purple Heart Medal for his valiant efforts in the Ryukyu Islands.
On August 28, 1946 Carl married Shirley L. (Schaffer) Jass in Hiawatha, KS. The couple was blessed with four children; Norma, Carolyn, Sally and Kevin. The family made their home on a farm near Mason City before moving to McCook in 1974. While living in McCook, Carl was employed by UPS.
Throughout the years, Carl and Shirley enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas together. Carl was also an avid Denver Broncos fan and enjoyed hunting. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Carl is survived by daughters, Norma (Dale) Keeney of Trenton, NE, Carolyn (LaVern) Burtis of Diagonal, IA and Sally (Robert) May of Oberlin, KS; son, Kevin (Patty) Jass of Greeley, CO; sisters, Mildred (Raymond) Priem, Dorothy (Carl R., deceased) Lundgren, Janette Jass all of Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; numerous nephews, great nephews and a host of friends.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Shirley Jass in 2014.
The family is honoring his wishes of cremation. A Private Graveside Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, McCook, at a later date.
