Carl Miller

July 10, 1910 — June 23, 2006

Carl Frank Miller, 95 died Friday, June 23, 2006 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, in McCook, NE. Carl was the last surviving sibling of his family.

Carl was born July 10, 1910 in Hitchcock County, NE, in a sod house to Frank & Amelia (Wittwer) Miller. Carl grew up farming with horses on the family farm in Hitchcock County. He bought his first tractor a Farmal F-30 in 1937 and his first car was a 1930 Chevy Coup.

He married his sweetheart Augusta Andrijeski, May18, 1932 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. They were blessed with 72 years of marriage. To this union eight children were born. Carl and Augusta began their married life on the Miller Family farm north of Culbertson, NE. In 1944 they moved to the Harr Place near St. Ann buying it in 1946. Carl had a farm sale in 1975, continued living on the farm until moving to McCook in June 1984. Augusta passed away September 2004, at which time Carl moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home.

Carl loved the farm, he liked to watch things grow and bring in the harvest. After his farm sale he bought back a small amount of livestock and kept some of the land to raise feed for them. The land brought him close to God and his faith showed it. When times were tough, the crops dried up, crops were hailed out or the calf crop was poor. He never complained, he would say, “God will get us through this”.

Carl was a loving kind generous husband, father and grandfather. He set good examples of honesty, faith, love, how to treat others and how to be fair in all things. He had great love for his family and great respect for friends and neighbors. He showed a genuine respect for the care takers of the nursing home and never complained even as his health declined. He would pray daily for his family and others in need.

Once reflecting back over his life the words of wisdom he wished to pass to the younger generation to help them through life’s difficulties, struggles, uncertainties and disappointments is; “Work hard and be honest”. “Go to Church and keep your faith”. “Be good to everybody, live like the Good Lord wants us to live and you will never be sorry”.

Preceding him in death were; his parents, his wife Augusta, one brother Joe, four sisters, Anna Sonckson, Martha Smith, Ida Andrijeski, Wilhelmina (Minnie) Smith. Two grandsons Lee Anthony Miller, Christopher Weskamp, three great grandchildren John Andrew Buchmeier, Taylor Teel and Avery Kent Lashley.

He is survived by eight children, Richard Miller and wife Retha of Cody, WY, LaVerne Miller and wife Bernadette of Sioux Falls, SD, Kenneth Miller and wife Jeanie of Longmont, CO, Charlene Weskamp and husband Andy of Norton, KS, Carla Teel and husband Dewey of Neligh, Leo Miller and wife of Diane of Lincoln, Melvin Miller and wife Jerry of McCook, and Carol Lashley and husband Randy of Trenton, 31 grandchildren and 72 great grandchildren.
