Biography

Carol M. Borgman of McCook passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Community Hospital. She was 91 years old.

Carol was born on a farm northeast of McCook to Merle Edgar and Ruth (Daugherty) Masters on December 4, 1920. She graduated from Republican Valley High School in the class of 1938. She continued her education at McCook Junior College and then graduated from St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, CO with a Registered Nursing Degree.

After her graduation, Carol entered the United States Army on October 22, 1942 and served during World War II. While she was stationed at Fort Carson, CO, she met and later married her husband, Ellsworth T. Borgman on April 24, 1943 at Trinity Church in Denver, CO.
Carol served 2 years on the island of New Caledonia and was honorably discharged on February 13, 1946.

Carol and Ellsworth moved back to McCook where she worked at both St. Catherine's Hospital and McCook Community Hospital as the Director of Nursing. She retired in 1982 from a career she loved.

Carol was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her many friends, traveling, shopping, and reading autobiographies, especially of the presidents and their wives.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Merle and Ruth Masters; husband, Ellsworth Borgman on December 13, 1996; brother, Bradley "Buck" Masters; and sister, Margie Leath.

Survivors include her children James Borgman of Greeley, CO and Kristine and husband, Scott Steneman, of Evergreen, CO; granddaughters, Sarah Steneman of Fort Collins, CO and Jessica Steneman of Evergreen; a great-granddaughter soon to be born; seven nieces, two nephews, and a host of wonderful friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Lance Clay officiating. A presentation of flag and taps will follow the service.
