Biography

Catherine "Joy" Dow of Indianola passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege NE. She was 87 years old.

Joy was born on February 24, 1923, on the family farm in Red Willow County, Nebraska to Herbert and Sarah (Evans) Hedges. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1941.

On June 20, 1948, she was united in marriage to Russell J. Dow. They made their home in Indianola where Russell was the postmaster and Joy was a busy mother and homemaker for their three sons.

Joy was a member of the Rotarians and VFW Auxiliary. She was an avid antique collector and loved all kinds of music and dance.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Herbert and Sarah Hedges; her husband, Russell Dow on January 11, 1998; brothers, Gordon, Gerace, Winston, and Robert; sisters, Janice, Mamie, Wilford, and Helen.

Survivors include her three sons, Don Dow and wife, Donna, of Lubbock, TX, Ken Dow of Indianola and DeWane Dow and wife, Anita, of Holdrege; grandchildren, Jamie and husband, Tom Nethery, of Port Charlotte, FL, Kelly Valladao and wife, Donna Kay, of Lubbock, TX, Evan and Aaron Dow of Holdrege; great-grandchildren, Keldon, Casey, Ryan, Hailey, Brian, Debbie, Daniel, Josh and Sarah; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Memorials may be given to the Indianola Fire & Rescue Dept. or the Christian Homes Care Community of Holdrege.

Memorial services will be Monday, November 1, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at the Indianola Christian Church with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Indianola.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
