Catherine Mitchem

October 14, 1920 — September 25, 2004

Biography

Catherine Helen Mitchem, 83, died Saturday (Sept. 25, 2004) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born Oct. 14, 1920, to Dimatro "Mike" and Jane (Balius) Worske in McCook.

She was married Feb. 11, 1940, to Vernon Mitchem in Oberlin. Catherine was a housewife, but later worked at Woolsworth, Montgomery Ward, TRW and the Dayco Plant.

Catherine loved craft work. She started in the 50's making crepe-paper flowers, peonies and roses, dipped in wax and she sold them for Memorial Day.

Many people, family, relatives and friends, have her crocheted dress dolls, bead items and other craft art. People would select what touched them. The hope is these crafts are still touched with her love and care for you to enjoy today. Just one reason why Catherine will be missed.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Dimatro "Mike" and Jane (Balius) Worske; two brothers, Don and Delbert; two sisters, Fern Mitchem and Mary Moorhous; one grandson, Jeffery Brown.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon Mitchem of McCook; two daughters, Carolyn McNabb and husband, Bill of Denver, Colo., and Gloria Brown of McCook; two sons, Gerald and wife, Pat Mitchem of McCook; and James Mitchem of McCook; three sisters, Marsella Herbert of Palisade, Fay Appel and Charlotte Worske of Milwaukee, Wis.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Services were Thursday, September 30, 2004, 2 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Pastor Hooten officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
