Biography

Charles Ray "Charlie" Patton passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at his rural home near Cooper, Texas, after a lengthy respiratory illness. He was 63 years old. Charlie was born in Vilas, Colorado, August 1, 1947, to Aubrey and Frances (Sisco) Patton.

He was raised and graduated from High School in Hugoton, Kansas. During his colorful lifetime, he was a diving clown, a rodeo announcer, he played semi-pro basketball, participated in calf roping on the pro rodeo circuit, he managed several feed lots and ranches, specializing in sick bay management, and was a car salesman. While in the United States Army, he served as an Army Ranger several years in Viet Nam and was awarded several purple hearts and three bronze stars.

He was married to Annie M. (Haag) Willoughby on March 8th, 1997, in Marysville, Kansas. Shortly after that, they and Annie's children, Gabe, Audrey, Jered and Allison, moved to an acreage in Delta County, Texas, where they lived the last 13 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy Sapp.

Survivors include his wife, Annie of Cooper, children, Debbie and husband Eugene Brown of Norman, Oklahoma, David and wife, Susie Patton of Sarasota, Florida, Gabriel Willoughby of Washington, D.C., Audrey Adams of Cooper, Jered Willoughby of Robbins Air Force Base, Georgia, and Allison Willoughby, of Tyler, Texas; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one special grandson who was his "best bud", Avery Adams. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert and wife Carolyn Patton of Amarillo, Texas, and Ronnie and wife Shirley Patton of Arkansas; his parents-in-law, Raymond and Myrna Haag of Bartley; brothers-in-law, Steve and wife Shari Haag of McCook, Kendall and wife Tracy Moon of Sutherland; sisters-in-law Cindy and husband Steve Seberger of Marshalltown, Iowa, Susan and husband Greg Kempel of Casselton, North Dakota, Colleen and husband Rob Michaelis, and Jeanine Haag, all of McCook; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is to be held in Hugoton Saturday. Rosary will be Sunday, December 5, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 6, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola, with Father Thomas McGuire officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Disabled American Veterans.
