Charles F. Thompson, 95, died Thursday (April 21, 2005) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
He was born Dec. 11, 1909, to Charles Stanley and Amanda (Walters) Thompson at Indianola. He attended Indianola Public Schools and graduated in 1928. He also attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln from 1928 to 1930.
On August 1, 1965 he married Agnes G. Wischert at Elkton, MD. She preceded him in death February 26, 1990.
He worked for almost 40 years in Horse Racing before retiring to Indianola in the late 1980's. He started as a Stable Boy and walked the horses after races and from there worked his way up to training thoroughbred horses. He also worked for the Sears family and the DuPont family on the East coast for several years training their family race horses.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Agnes; two sisters, Edna Harrison and Angie Puelz.
Survivors include two step-sons, Donald Harrison of Inverness, Florida and James Harrison of Baltimore, Maryland.
Memorials are being accepted in his name.
Graveside services will be in the Indianola Cemetery, Monday (April 25, 2005) at 11 a.m. with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
