Charlie John Duffield, age 89, of McCook, NE died unexpectedly at his home in McCook on Monday, August 15, 2022.
Charlie was born April 22, 1933 in Padroni, CO to parents Alva G. and Margaret G. (Dickinson) Duffield. He was one of five sons born to this union. Charlie graduated high school in 1951 in Chappell, Nebraska. He then attended business college in Chillicothe, MO. Charlie enlisted on April 14, 1953 to proudly serve his country in the United States Army, he was honorably discharged on March 30, 1955.
Charlie married Mary (Reichman) Duffield on April 1, 1956 in Chappell. The couple was blessed with three children: Milton, Gregg and Janella. The family made McCook their home in 1960.
Charlie worked as a district court reporter for over thirty years, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed creating stained glass and making wooden bowls, camping, playing the piano and square dancing with Mary. Charlie was a member of the local VFW Post # 1652 and Masonic Lodge #135 as well as the Memorial United Methodist Church.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; and three of his brothers, Lendyl, William and Duane.
Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Mary; sons, Milton Duffield of Springfield, MO and Gregg Duffield of Kearney, NE; daughter, Janella (Karl) Clark of Akron, IA; brother, Harold Duffield of Oceanside, CA; four grandchildren, Tiffani Owsley, Lindsay Rasco, Justine Frease and Jacqui Satterwhite; and six great grandchildren, Dylon Rasco, Kyler Owsley, Shayln Owsley, Koltyn Owsley, Alice Lucero and Jackson Satterwhite.
Memorial contributions are suggested in Charlie’s name for future designation and may be directed to Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, c/o the Duffield Family, PO Box 476, McCook, NE 69001.
Visitation with family present to greet friends will be held from 5 to7pm of Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Memorial United Methodist Church, McCook, with Pastor Jeff Kelley officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, McCook.
