Claudine Leonore Hickert, age 92, of McCook Nebraska, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 at her home surrounded by family.
Claudine was born on September 24, 1929 on the family homestead in Quick, Nebraska to parents Claude Devere and Muriel Josephine (Fish) Doyle.
She attended grade school at District 32 and graduated from McCook High School in 1948. After graduation she worked at Red Willow Extension Office, Agriculture Stabilization Co. (ASC), NKC Grain and Perry Grain Company.
On November 28, 1959 she was united in marriage to James Hickert (from New Almelo, KS) at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McCook NE. They made their home on a farm in Red Willow Country, northwest of McCook and were blessed with two children. Claudine was a busy and devout farm wife, mother and homemaker. After the death of her husband on Christmas Eve in 1974 she continued to farm for two years before she and her children moved closer to her childhood homestead north of McCook where she resided until her death.
Claudine was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society, St. Isidore and St. Theresa Circle, and Legion of Mary Auxiliary. She also attended and was active in Cursillo and Ultreya. She selflessly gave her time and cared for numerous family members as well caretaker for several parish members. She helped with numerous parish activities including traveling with St. Pats CYO group to prepare meals on annual ski trips. She cooked meals for the parish and visiting priests for several years. She also helped with pro-life breakfast, making her outstanding cinnamon rolls and homemade biscuits and gravy.
She enjoyed family and hosting countless family gatherings throughout her years. Her door was always open and there was always a seat at her table. Cooking, baking, lending a hand and her heart for family and friends was a daily ritual. She loved dancing whenever possible. She was very committed to her faith and was a faithful prayer warrior.
Preceding Claudine in death were her parents, Claude and Muriel Doyle; husband Jim Hickert; father-in-law and mother-in-law Al and Amanda (Gillece) Hickert; sister and brother-in-law Patsy and (Bill) Koetter; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Cecelia and (Bud) Kotschwar, Hilaria and (Joy) Huff, Iolene and (Francis) Levendofsky, Bertilla and (Tom) Conroy, William Hickert, Bernard Farrell, Delbert Roth, Carolyn Hickert, and Robert Hickert; nieces Karin Kotschwar and Theresa Wolters; nephews Rodney Koetter, Tony Conroy and Douglas Otter.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Galen Hickert and fiancé Sonja Yeager, Linda and (Roger) Dame of McCook; Grandchildren; Amber (Colby) Thompson, Jimmy Hickert, Dalton (Tabitha) Hickert, Branigan Dame, Brady Dame, Bryce Dame and special friend Hannah Nichols and Brendon Dame and special friend Keirsten Colton; Great grandchildren; Waylon, Paisley, Parker and Presleigh Thompson; Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law; Wilma Farrell, Donna Roth, Marilyn and (Marion) Otter, and Don Hickert as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
