Mr. and Mrs. Clemens Lavern Kogl, age 88, and Rose Marie Elizabeth (Brown) Kogl, age 86, of Culbertson, NE passed away unexpectedly August 27, 2019 as a result of a car accident in Red Willow County.
Both Clemens and Rose Marie were born at home in Rawlins County, Kansas, Clemens on December 27, 1930 to parents Clemens and Alvina (Nehring) Kogl and Rose Marie on May 30, 1933 to parents Frank and Frances (Barenberg) Brown. Clemens went to school in Herndon, KS, graduating in 1948 while Rose Marie attended school in Atwood, KS, graduating in 1951. Clemens and Rose Marie met at a dance and were engaged when Clemens was drafted into the United States Army in February of 1953. He was honorably discharged in February 1955. He was a proud Veteran and was involved with the VFW in Culbertson and Herndon, KS.
The couple was married on April 12, 1955 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood, KS. They became the proud parents of four children.
The family made their home in Culbertson where Clemens farmed and enjoyed gardening. Rose Marie was a busy homemaker who loved to sew, bake and collect chickens which she proudly displayed throughout the house. She will be fondly remembered as the “Egg Lady” as she would often deliver eggs to friends and family all over the area while raising over 800 chickens. Rose Marie was a member of the Red Hat Club, the Gab-Abouts Coffee Club, and enjoyed exercising in the FROG Program.
Together, the couple enjoyed small town life, attending dances with friends at the local Elks Club and playing cards in several card clubs. Clemens and Rose Marie enjoyed their children’s school activities as well as assisting friends and family with their wheat harvest. Clemens and Rose Marie were members of St Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook and attended many functions at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Herndon.
Clemens is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Melvin (Regis) Kogl; brother in law, Pete Reinert; nephew, Gary Reinert; and niece, Marie Moore.
Rose Marie is preceded in death by her parents; sister in law, Janet Brown; and nephew, Jeff Brown.
Those left to celebrate their lives include children, John (Rhonda) Kogl of Holdrege, NE, Dave (Tammy) Kogl of Sidney, NE, Tim Kogl of Culbertson and DeAnn (Vern) Brickner of Kearney, NE; Clemens’ siblings, Tom (Jean) Kogl of Herndon, Dorothy Reinert of Atwood and Eileen (Charles) Unger of Herndon; RoseMarie’s siblings, Florian Brown of Nebraska City, NE, Thelma (Paul) Palic of Julesburg, CO and Jeannine (Don) Curry of Clarkston, WA; as well as five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of extended family members and close friends.
