Dale was born October 16, 1949 in McCook to parents Kenneth K. and Evelyn R. (Olsson) Mercer. He was one of three sons born to this union.  Dale graduated from high school in Curtis, NE with the Class of 1967.  While in high school in excelled in a variety of sports and was actually one of the last players to “drop-kick” an extra point in high school football. He was also an excellent bowler.

Following high school, Dale worked as a mechanic and a meat cutter until he attended the Police Academy in 1969. He worked in law enforcement in Madison Nebraska until 1974 and then moved to McCook where he began his career as a flooring installer.  In 1968, he married Sheila Farrar in Kearney, NE and the couple was blessed with two children, Stacy and Amber.  In 1975, Dale married Judy Appleyard in McCook and they became parents to Brandi, Melissa, Christopher and Tyler.

Dale’s hobbies included woodworking, bowling, playing cards and fishing.  He enjoyed cracking jokes and was very proud of the wooden board games he made for playing marbles.  He was a huge Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and loved to reminisce about his time playing or coaching sports in his younger years.  Dale will be remembered by his children for generally chill and funny attitude and quiet acceptance for which they will all miss greatly.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Mercer; and his niece, Stephanie Mercer.

Those left to celebrate his life include his brother, Doug (Patty) Mercer of Canton, GA; children, Stacy (Ryan) Rogers of Alma, NE, Amber (Brent) Burr of Kearney, NE, Brandi (Steve) Renner, Melissa (Kris) Proud both of McCook, NE, Christopher Mercer and Tyler Mercer both of Lake Havasu, AZ; sister in law Glenda Miller of Canton, TX; nineteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
