Daniel Lee Stevens age 64 of McCook, NE passed away Monday, November 13, 2017 at Community Hospital in McCook
Dan was born to Jerry and (Ada) Loralee Stevens in North Platte, NE on February 14th, 1953. Dan was the third of seven brothers and sisters. He graduated from North Platte in 1971. He played trombone in band and was a great athlete. He competed in gymnastics with the rings and parallel bars. Dan studied business and attended Mid-America Nazarene College in Olathe, KS and Mid-Plains Community College in both North Platte and McCook.
He married his wife, Christy Miller, in 1973. Throughout the years he worked at Wheeler’s in North Platte, Gothenburg, and Kimball. It was in Kimball where their son Jesse was born. In 1977 Dan was transferred to the Alliance store. In Alliance his daughter Amy was born. In 1980 he transferred to the McCook Wheeler’s location currently named Orschelns.
In 1982 his love for people and the art of hearing soon brought him to take classes to become a certified state and national hearing consultant. He received an award acknowledging his 35th year as a hearing consultant in 2017. Dan worked for Audible for the past 16 years. There was nothing he loved more than helping children and adults hear better.
Dan was a member of the McCook Evangelical Free Church and was very dedicated to his family, church, and community. Dan and his family traveled and ministered as a team of musicians. He belonged to several organizations including Sertoma, Barbershop, and Gideons. He also belonged to many traveling singing groups including the 4Hyms, a member of the Worship Team at the McCook E-free Church, performed numerous skits and dramas including the favorite Henry and Doris, and contributed to the Southwest Nebraska Community Theater.
He served on four mission trips to Romania where he was able to share his faith. He and his wife loved to travel which included across the United States and Canada as well as abroad to London, Paris, Rome, Venice, and Spain. In each country he would leave his mark by being a gentle witness for Christ. Dan loved to help other people with his hands and often gave anonymous gifts of cash and bags of groceries to those in need. Any item Dan had, he graciously gave to others.
He is preceded in death by his father Jerry Dwayne Stevens and great niece Ann Lydia Kumm. He is survived by his wife Christy; his son Jesse Stevens (Stephanie); his daughter Amy Bruneau (Dan); and grandchildren Shelby, Andrew, Claire, and Carson; mother Loralee Stevens of Lenexa, KS; sister LaDonna Studley (Don) of LaMar, IA; Dr. Woodie Stevens (Cheryl) of Lenexa, KS; sister LaVonne Blevins (Dennis) from Woodland Park, CO; sister Valerie Rhodes (Dusty) of Overland Park, KS; brother Jeff Stevens (Leslie) of Olathe, KS; and his sister Melodie Terrill (Steve) of Olathe, KS; with 15 nieces and nephews and 30 great nieces and nephews. Often the seven brothers and sisters referred to themselves as the Seven Sensational Siblings.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 2:00-8:00 PM at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home. The family will be at the funeral home from 5-7 to receive family and friends.
The funeral will be at the McCook Evangelical Free Church on Friday, November 17, 2017. Because of Dan’s personality and the way he ran his life, he was always early to each event. Therefore, in honor of him, the service will start three minutes early at 10:57 am.
