David W Baker

Mr. David Wayne Baker Sr., aged 70, of McCook, Nebraska passed away at his home on February 11, 2025.

David was born in Lawrence, KS on June 2, 1954, to parents Chester and Lucille (Hildabrand) Baker. David graduated from high school in Lawrence, KS with the class of 1972. David then moved to Garden City, Kansas where he met and married his wife Katherine Schlereth in June of 1977. David and Katherine were living in Boulder, CO when their son David Wayne Baker Jr. was born on March 19, 1978.

In his professional life, David worked for a harvest crew, cutting corn and barely, through Kansas and Colorado for 17 years. During this time with the harvest crew, David met Mark Harmond, the actor in Coors Beer commercials. In 2010, David and Katherine divorced, and he moved to McCook, Nebraska. He worked at Frenchman Valley Co-Op as a truck driver and retired after 6 years. 

In his free time, David would meet with friends for coffee twice a day at Fullers and Ed’s Place to shoot the breeze. His pride and joy was his dachshund dog, Mr. Beans. 

David is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Butch Baker. 

Those that will miss David dearly are his son, David Baker Jr. of McCook, NE; stepdaughter, Kristine Darby of Spokane, WA; sister, Linda Baker of Lawrence, KS; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and 2 nieces, 2 nephews, extended family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in David’s name to the family to be designated at a later date.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
