Dean Brown

Dean A. Brown, 77, a resident of San Diego, CA since 1960, passed away suddenly on January 22, 2010.

He was born on August 6, 1932 in Danbury to Don C. and Edna Ruth Roesch-Brown.

After graduation from Indianola High School, Indianola, Nebraska, Dean enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Korean conflict. Honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to McCook, Nebraska, to attend College. He attended McCook College for one year and transferred to South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, located in Rapid City, South Dakota, graduating in January of 1960 with a degree in Civil Engineering.

While attending McCook College, Dean met his future wife Twila Richter. They were married on June 22, 1957 and for 52 years their love for and commitment to each other has remained constant.

Dean and Twila moved to San Diego in April of 1960, where he began a 30 year career with CAL TRANS as a project and design engineer, retiring in December of 1990.

Dean had a fondness of animals and many leisure interests, his favorite of which was music. He found daily enjoyment and relaxation in listening to his large collection of music that included everything from classical to rock and Sinatra to Willie Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Edna; and his brother, Harold.

A devoted husband, brother, uncle and friend, Dean is survived by his wife, Twila and brothers, Floyd of Oregon, Morris (Donna) of Nevada, Vernon (Dot) of South Carolina; brother in-law, Larry Pennington; sisters in-law, Norma Brown and Verda Wegener; several treasured nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Dean will always be remembered as a man of principle and kindness and will be forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials were to be given to the American Heart Association or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Funeral services were Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Pastor Strecker-Baseler officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
