Delmar Lee Solko

Delmar ("Del") Lee Solko, age 77, of Herndon, Kansas, passed away on February 24, 2023, at the Central Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Kearney, Nebraska.

Del was born February 9, 1946, in Oberlin, Kansas, to parents Albert A. and Lucille (Marintzer) Solko. He was the third of eight children born to this union.

Del farmed and ranched near Herndon, where he lived the majority of his life. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the former Herndon VFW Post. He loved going to local auctions where he would find treasures to add to his growing collection of guns, tractors, marbles and antiques.

Delmar proudly served his country in the U.S. Army C Company, 1 st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment stationed in Vietnam from 1965 until his Honorable Discharge in 1967.

Delmar was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Samuel Solko; and sister in law, Joy Lynn Solko. Those left to celebrate his life are his Aunt Aurelia (Marintzer) Escher of Topeka, and his siblings, Don (Diana) Solko of Atwood, Kansas; Kenneth Solko of McCook, Nebraska; Mary Ann Padget of McCook; Patrick Solko of Herndon, Jane (Martin Jr.) Waterman of Atwood and Alan (Ann) Solko of Herndon, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Vigil Service will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 22, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Herndon. Fr. Henry Saw Lone will be officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will immediately follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
