DeLoris Ann Altman ~ “The Cake Lady”
DeLoris Ann Altman passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at El Dorado Manor in Trenton. She was 86 years old.
DeLoris was born on March 30, 1928 in Hitchcock County, Nebraska to Henry and Anna K. (Brehm) Ross. She graduated from Trenton High School in 1946.
On September 22, 1948, she was united in marriage to John C. Altman. They made their home in Culbertson where DeLoris worked as a clerk for the Post Office for 33 years. She also worked for the Wacker Grocery Store for 17 years. DeLoris was widely known as the “The Cake Lady” a name given to her for the numerous birthday and wedding cakes she decorated. She also enjoyed collecting tea pots of which she had over 200, making crafts, and crocheting. She was an animal lover especially of dogs.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, John Altman; two brothers, Dan and Elmer Ross; and two sisters, Carolyn Wallace and Verna Brehm.
Survivors include her beloved nieces and nephews, Jim Altman of Lafayette, LA, Patricia and husband, Charlie Powers, of McCook, NE, Barbara VanBrunt of Princeton, TX, Marjorie Miele of Marshfield, MA, Kathy Vuletich of Whittier, CA, Duane Wallace and wife, Angie, of Denver, CO, Delmar Wallace of Gulf Shore, AL, Terri and husband, Mark Shinbarra of Denver, CO and Jerry Ross of Ontario, OR; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorials may be given in her name to the McCook Humane Society, 100 South Street, McCook, NE 69001 or the American Parkinson Disease Association, 501 North 87th Street, Omaha, NE 68114-2847
Visitation will be Friday, October 16, 2014 from 4-8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 17, 2014 at 1O:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Father Bernard Lorenz officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Culbertson Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
