Doloris Elizabeth Clifton of McCook died Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was 83 years old.

Doloris was born on January 27, 1924 at McCook to Louis John and Susan Anna (O’Dea) Colling. She graduated from Red Willow High School in 1941 and St. Francis College of Nursing in Grand Island in 1947.

On August 24, 1948, she married Merle Fulford Clifton. To this union five children were born. They made their home in the McCook community where Doloris was a busy mother and homemaker. She was also a nurse for St. Catherine’s and Community Hospital for 37 years.

Doloris was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was a Cub and Boy Scout Leader and volunteered for the collection of Muscular Dystrophy Association. She was instrumental in organizing disaster drills through the hospital for many years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Louis and Susan Colling; her husband, Merle Clifton in 2001; three brothers, Bernard, Donald and George Colling; and two sisters, Lucille Hill and Mildred Stratman and one grandchild, Jessica Clifton.

Survivors include her two daughters, Patricia Clifton and Jo (Joyce) and husband, Bert Klein, all of Dallas, Texas; three sons, Roy Clifton and wife, Joan, of Ravenna, Ray Clifton of North Platte, and Garry Clifton and wife, Jennifer, of Park City, Utah; two brothers, Joseph Colling and wife, Bernadine, of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Harold Colling of Wichita, Kansas; one sister, Marge and husband, Gene Malleck, of McCook; five grandchildren, Emma, Clint and wife, Brienne, Brecken, Joshua, and Jonathan; and one great-grandchild, Sebastian.

Memorials were to be given in her name to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Rosary took place Friday, December 7, 2007, 7:30 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, December 8, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
