Donald Dean Brandt, age 88, of McCook, NE passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at his home in Kinship Pointe.
Don was born April 10, 1934 in Beatrice, NE to parents Fred A and Tena (Grussing) Brandt. He was one of four children who grew up in Beatrice. Don attended school in both Beatrice and Hastings, NE, graduating from Beatrice High School with the Class of 1952.
Before leaving for the service, Don married the love of his life, Marilyn Brandt on August 21, 1954 in Beatrice. The couple became parents to four sons.
Following high school, Don attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he played football for the Cornhuskers. In 1954, he enlisted in the United States Army. Don proudly served his country from 1954 until his Honorable Discharge in 1956. Upon his return, Don used his GI Bill to finish his education at the University of Nebraska, graduating in 1958. He then attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where he earned his master’s degree in Education in 1963.
Don was an educator for over thirty years, teaching in Aurora, Colorado public schools. He spent his summers working at area parks and golf courses, enjoying the outdoors.
Following Marilyn’s retirement in 1995, Don and Marilyn moved to McCook. Don worked at Heritage Hills Golf Course and volunteered at St. Alban’s Church and the Food Pantry.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ted Brandt; one brother, Delbert Brandt; his two sisters, Winifred (Dale) Workman and Florene Burton; and a granddaughter, Jolene Burns.
Those left to celebrate his life are his wife Marilyn Brandt of McCook; sons, James Brandt of McCook and Tim (Linda) Brandt, Kelly Brandt and John Brandt all of Colorado; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.
