Donald E. Hyde, age 76, of McCook, Nebraska passed away Friday, February 6, 2015 at Community Hospital in McCook.
Don was born December 11, 1938 in Manzanola, Colorado to Charles Robert and Ethel Mae (Steward) Hyde. He was the oldest of three children born to this union.
Don graduated from Centennial High School in Pueblo, CO with the class of 1956. Following graduation on June 24, 1956, he joined the United States Navy. Don served his country proudly and was honorably discharged on September 11, 1959 and continued to serve his country in the Reserves until July 23, 1962.
Don married Vaunda Fortkamp on May 31, 1959 in Wauneta, Nebraska. To this union three children were born Dawn, Doug, and Greg.
Don received his BA in Industrial Arts from Kearney State College in 1971. He then went on to obtain his Master’s Degree in 1980. Don was an Industrial Arts teacher at McCook Public Schools from 1971 to 1998 when he retired.
Don was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served on the board as Financial Secretary and past president of the congregation. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing, hunting and traveling with family and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and In-laws, Charles Robert Hyde, Ethel Mae (Steward) Hyde and Fred and Merle (DeHart) Fortkamp.
Don is survived by his wife Vaunda Hyde of McCook; children Dawn Hyde and fiancé Whit Gill of Wauneta, NE, Doug (Faith) Hyde of McCook and Greg (Tiffany) Hyde of Austin, TX; sisters Sharon Jean (Robert) LaFoe of Pueblo, CO, and Linda (Phil) Coventon of Parkville, MO; grandchildren Christian Schaffert, Brianne (Schaffert) and husband Adam Bartlett, Austyn Hyde and friend Matt Kenner, Caitlyn Hyde, and Madison Hyde; great grandchildren Elizabeth and Mathew Schaffert, and Jonah and Oscar Bartlett. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 1 to 8 PM with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7 PM.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with Pastor Tom Albertson, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
