Donald Wayne Mullanix of McCook, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at his farm in Frontier County. He was 78 years old.

Donald was born on February 14, 1929 in Red Willow County, Nebraska to Neal and Grace Vesper (Spaulding) Mullanix. He attended rural school and lived most of his life in the Maywood, Quick and McCook area.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1949-1952.

On March 2, 1952 Don married Donna Appleyard in Curtis. To this union three children were born and they lived on the farm in Frontier County until 1965 when they moved to McCook.

He was a member of the McCook Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing ball, with the Quick Blue Jays, Curtis Cardinals, the Havana's and McCook Farm Service. He also enjoyed ice fishing, working on the farm, custom combining and watching ballgames on television. Don hauled fruit from western slope of Colorado and this is where he got the nickname "Peaches".

Preceding him in death were his parents, Neal & Grace Mullanix and two grandchildren, Amy and Tommy Leightner.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of McCook; children, Robert Mullanix and wife Jane of Sterling Colorado, Dianna Jo Lightner of Omaha and Sharon Kircher and husband Steve of McCook; grandchildren, Tracey Fisher and husband Eric of Indianola, Mike Mullanix of Sterling, Colorado, Glen Bowles, Matt Bowles both of Denver, Danny Lightner of Lincoln, Becky Lightner of Omaha, Jennifer and Logan Kircher of McCook and six great-grandchildren: and a brother Gerald Mullanix and wife Gladys of Grand Island.

Memorials were to be given in his name to the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook.

Funeral services were held Monday, 11 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Thurman officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
