Donald James Poore died Monday, June 25, 2007 at Community Hospital in McCook. He was born Nov. 4, 1928 in McCook to William Forrest and Mildred (Modrell) Poore. He was a lifelong resident of McCook.
On Sept. 30, 1950 he married Mary Verlene Swanson in McCook and to this union 3 children were born. He served in the U.S Army from 1950-1952. Don worked at Gierhart Shoes and Clothing, the East Sale Barn and the Burlington Northern Railroad, from 1954 until his retirement in 1991. He was a 60-year member of the Memorial United Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters; Bonnie Jean Poore and Margorie Bradshaw and a brother, William F. Poore, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of McCook; two sons, Michael and wife, Kathleen of Omaha and Thomas and wife, LaDonna of McCook; one daughter, Kathy and husband Charles Myers of Colorado Springs, CO; seven grandchildren, Ethan, Joshua and Mariah Poore, Christina and Michelle Myers, and Wesley and Ellie Poore: three brothers, Wayne and wife, Edna Poore, Dale and wife Peggy Poore and Rex and wife Jeannette Poore, all of McCook; and one sister, Mary Anne and husband Ronald Tardiff of Alamogordo, NM.
Don and Mary also have 6 more special children who have added much joy to their family: Xuan and Lynn Dang, and Trieu, Nhi, Sa and Vi Hoang and their spouses and 9 children.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Bit and Spur 4-H Club.
Funeral services were Thursday at the Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
