Donna Mae Guthrie died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at her home in Indianola. She was 77 years old.
Donna was born on May 4th, 1931 in Dawson, NE to Roy D. “John” and Ethel Helen (Stevenson) Bacon.
She was united in marriage to Glen Shadley in December of 1947. To this union three children were born, Douglas, Marcy and Jaynee. She married Eldon Gerald “Gus” Guthrie in December of 1967. To this union two children were born, David and Traci.
Donna was well known for her cooking at the Round-Up in Indianola. She was a homemaker and loved working in her garden, enjoyed horseback riding, dancing, crossword puzzles, collecting antiques and spending time with her many friends. She especially loved attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John Bacon and Ethel Davis; and her husband, Eldon “Gus” Guthrie.
Survivors include her children, Douglas Shadley of Indianola, Marcy Shadley and wife, Carol, of Trenton, Jaynee and husband, Jerry Janousek of Trenton, David Guthrie and Lisa of Bartley, Traci Guthrie and Mike of Indianola; step-children, James Guthrie of Gainsville, Florida, and Brenda and husband, Rick Smith, of Springfield; two brothers, Gary Bacon and wife, Margie, of Joshua Tree, CA and Larry Bacon of Lincoln; two sisters, Belva Snyder of Loveland, CO and Mavis and husband, Richard Brunswick, of Truth or Consequence, NM; 15 grandchildren, Ashley Jackson, Andrea Shadley, Adrianne Shadley, Aaron Shadley, Amber Rooney, Angel Martin, Helena Janousek, Kaden Guthrie, Drake Guthrie, Tyler Brooks, Madison Mousel, Mason Mousel, Trey Mousel, Jeremy Smith and Jacob Smith; 10 great-grandchildren, Sidney, Reece, Wyatt, Chloe, Hanna, Brooklynn, Colin, Killian, Devin and Zachary; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials were to be given in her name to the Good Samaritan Hospice, PO Box 1990, Kearney, NE 68848.
Memorial services were held Friday evening, July 18, 2008, 7:00 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel, with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
