Donovan Lee Jones
April 25, 1930 — June 18, 2014
Donovan Lee Jones passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Hillcrest Nursing Home with his family by his side. He was 84 years old.
Donovan was born on April 25, 1930, at Lebanon, Nebraska to parents, William Earl and Etta Marie (Huff) Jones. He graduated from Danbury High School in 1948.
On October 23, 1949, he was united in marriage to Phyllis E. Gallentine in Oberlin, Kansas. They made their home in Denver to be close to their parents. It was while they were in Denver that two children, William and D'ri, were adopted to make their family complete. The family eventually made their home in McCook where Donovan worked for Dayco as a service tech until his retirement after 18 years of service.
He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and McCook Eagles Club.
Donovan enjoyed following his son's sporting events while he was in school. He also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, going to dances with his wife, and socializing at the Senior Center.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Phyllis Jones; his parents, William and Etta Jones; brothers, Charles, Virgil, Earl, and Paul Jones, Clarence Jones in infancy and Delmar Thomas.
Survivors include his son, William Jones and wife, Bree, of McCook; daughter, D'ri Jones of Denver, CO; two sisters, Connie and husband, Randy, Holdren of Albuquerque, NM and Bonnie and husband, Kelly Schiltz of Menlo, KS; grandchildren, Bailey (Adrian) Winters, Matyll, Tavender, and Teagan Jones and Nevayah and Griffon Hust; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
Memorials may be given in his name.
Visitation will be Friday, June 27, 2014 from 1- 4:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home. Friends may go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences to the family.
Memorial services will be Saturday, June 28, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Terry McCorkle officiating. Inurnment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Norcatur Cemetery, Norcatur, Kansas.
