Dorothy Francis Baumfalk

Dorothy Frances (Walgren) Baumfalk passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

Dorothy was born March 13, 1920, the daughter of Woodie and Vella (Furry) Walgren, on the family farm near Wauneta, NE. She attended school in Dundy County.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Baumfalk on January 27, 1937 at Benkelman, NE. To this union two sons were born: Dick and Ronald. They were married for 75 years at the time of Robert's passing in 2012.

They farmed near Stratton, NE for 18 years. In 1955, they moved to the Walgren farm in Dundy County where they farmed and raised livestock. Dorothy helped with the farming.

In 1974 they purchased a home in Wauneta, NE where they resided for 34 years. In June of 2008 they moved to Willow Ridge Retirement Community in McCook, NE.

Dorothy was a member of the Methodist Church for over 60 years where she served as communion steward and financial secretary. She was also a member of the Methodist Women's group.

Her hobbies were making quilts and afghans, cooking, and working in the garden. She enjoyed the mountains, birds, and all of nature. Most of all she loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert Baumfalk; son, Dick Baumfalk; grandson, James Baumfalk; a brother, Leslie Walgren and two sisters, Mabel Dicke and Ruby Tatum.

Survivors include son, Ronald Baumfalk and wife, Nancy, of Aurora, CO; Grandchildren, Kent and Sherrill Baumfalk, Michael Baumfalk, Carol Van Ert, and Craig Baumfalk; and Great-grandchildren, Steven and Sandy Van Ert and Kaitlyn and Derek Baumfalk.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Dorothy's name to the Wauneta United Methodist Church.

Memorial services will be Friday, August 15, 2014, 11:00 a.m. MT at the United Methodist Church in Wauneta with Melody Newman officiating. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
