Dorothy Jean Berndt

June 24, 1927 — June 29, 2014

Dorothy Jean Ridpath Berndt, age 87, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 at her home in Willow Ridge.

Dorothy was born June 24, 1927 to Elmer and Ethel (Hitchcock) Ridpath in McCook, Ne. She attended McCook schools, graduating in 1944, and attended McCook Junior College.

She worked at Jewel Wholesale Company as an accountant until her marriage. On June 6, 1948 she married Raymond Berndt and they made their home on a farm south of McCook. She was a busy homemaker and mother of two daughters; she also enjoyed decorating cakes for special events. They moved into town in 1990.

Dorothy was a long time member of the First Assembly of God church where she worked with children for many years. She was president of the local diabetes association.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Hazel Kahl.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond; two daughters, Cheryl and husband, Rev. Phil Neely, of Montrose, CO, Karen Anderson and husband, Tom Anderson of McCook; sister, Mildred McMains of El Dorado in Trenton; six grandchildren, Jason (Carmen) Neely, Jessica Neely, Nick (Chely) Anderson, Rev. Andy (Stephanie) Anderson, Krystal Haskett Anderson, and Tiffany Anderson; two great grandchildren: Judah and Jenna Neely with another expected soon by Nick & Chely.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Ravens Inc., 630 Golden Dr., Montrose, CO 81402 (Provisioning Missions Ministry to an Indian Tribe in Mexico).

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the McCook First Assembly of God Church, 811 East “C”, Street. Rev. Phil Neely and Rev. Jason Neely will be co-officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
