Dorothy Mae Duval, 86, died Sunday, August 8, 2004 at Community Hospital in McCook.

She was born June 24, 1918 in Harlan County to Philip F. and Margaret (Pyell) Dietz.

She grew up on the family farm near Orleans and attended school at District 60. Over the years she lived in Paxton, Ansley, Sumner and then returned to Orleans in 1973. She moved to McCook in 1996.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, LWML Guild and Peace Lutheran Quilters. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Harold Mars, Eugene Welte and William Duval; a grandson, Jackie Mars; three brothers, Philip Dietz, Louis Dietz & Paul Dietz; two sisters, Lula Fritzen and Minnie Claypool; and a special son-in-law, Arlus Hueftle.

Survivors include: four daughters, Dollene Stamm and friend Raymond Muths of Imperial, Dorene Hueftle of McCook, Marjean Grant and husband Richard of Ansley and Judy Stunkel and husband Dennis of Broken Bow; four sons, Raymond Mars and wife Sue of Brandon, Miss., Donald Mars and wife Gerda of Taft, Tenn., Neal Mars and wife Loretta of El Centro, Calif. and Bill Welte and wife Esther of Clairmore, Okla.; three brothers, Eddie Dietz and wife Alice of Orleans, Robert Dietz and wife Donna of Alma and Lawrence Dietz and wife Donna of Orleans; two sisters, Alice Higby and husband Velvin of Alma and Pauline Holterman and husband Orville of Long Island, Kans.; 21 grandchildren, Pamela, Preston, Listy, Karmela, Todd, Donelle, Stacey, Denise, Teresa, Rashelle, Andy, Wendy, Robert, Ann, Wade, Dawn, Veronica, Neal Jr., Libi, Lori & Tracy; 32 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends Mildred Niermeier and Mildred (Rucker) Myers.

Funeral services were Friday at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Randy Wahl officiating. Burial took place in the Orleans Cemetery.

Memorials are being accepted in her name.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
