Dorothy Darlene Hopkins, age 88, of McCook, NE passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 at Community Hospital in McCook.
Born February 16, 1930 to parents Robert Charles and Blanche Laree (Grunden) Spray, Dorothy grew up in Curtis, NE. She was one of two siblings who attended school in Curtis, graduating from Curtis High School with the Class of 1948. Dorothy then went on to further her education by attending the Kearney Teaching College in Kearney, NE where she obtained her Teaching Certificate. She taught school for six years.
On May 15, 1954, Dorothy married William W. Hopkins in Curtis. The couple raised their two children, Ronda Eileen and William Bruce, on the farm outside of Stockville, NE.
Dorothy was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Stockville as well as the McCook Eagles Auxiliary, and the Stockville Women’s Club where she held many different offices and spent time volunteering. She also enjoyed plastic canvas needlework, jig saw puzzles, dancing, playing shuffle board, darts, and games with her children and grandchildren. Outside of teaching, Dorothy help managed several small cafes where she also waited tables.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill Hopkins in 1982; father and mother in law, Richard and Norma Hopkins; brother, Glen Spray, and nephew Rick Spray.
Those left to celebrate her life include daughter, Ronda (Ernest) Harris of York, NE; son Bruce Hopkins of Funk, NE; five grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and two on the way; very special friend, Jim Dawson of McCook, sister-in law Virginia Spray of McCook, NE as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
