Douglas Carl McNerny, age 72, of Madison, NE passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Countryside Home in Madison where he was residing.
Born to parents James M. and Lenoa (Carstens) McNerny on September 7, 1945 in Bartley, NE, Doug was one of five children. The family made their home in Bartley where Doug attended school.
Doug married Vera Castleman in 1969. He later married Kathy (Hanes) McNerny on February 2, 1988 in Madison.
Throughout the years Doug loved fishing, camping and gardening. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. He enjoyed bowling on the bowling league each week where he was actively involved for over ten years. His wife Kathy loved to bake, and Doug was known for eating all the cookies she had prepared for family in McCook before they ever got to town.
Doug was proceeded in death by his parents; sister, Deanna Welch; brother, Darrell McNerny; and brother in law, Dick O’Hanen.
He is survived by his wife Kathy of Madison; sons, Tom Stacey of Larnard, KS and Michael (Tina) Stacey of Great Bend, KS; daughters, Stacy Stacey of McCook, NE and Janice Hledik of Madison; brother William “Dale” McNerny of Lexington, NE; sister Zelda O’Hanen also of Lexington; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018, 2 PM at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook, with Pastor Barry Williams officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Bartley Cemetery, Bartley, NE.
Memorial contributions may be designated in Doug’s name.
