Biography

Duane I. Phillips of Bartley died Monday, September 6, 2010 at McCook Community Hospital. He was 74 years old.

Duane was born on January 24, 1936 in Fullerton to Irving D. and Mildred (Snodgrass) Phillips. He graduated from Central City High School in 1953. He entered the US Air Force in 1955 and worked in electronics, radar, gun sights and mechanic for F-105 fighter jets. He served for 13 years until his honorable discharge.

On December 26, 1957, he was united in marriage to Carol A. Durham in Pineville, LA. To this union three children were born.

In 1968, he went into the banking business starting at Overland National Bank in Grand Island. In 1981, he moved to Indianola where he worked for the Bank of Indianola until 1989 and later the State Bank of Bartley until his retirement in 2007.

Duane enjoyed youth baseball, woodworking and spending time in his yard.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Irving and Mildred Phillips.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Carol Phillips of Bartley; his three children, Michael Phillips and wife, Theresa, of Omaha, Kimberly and her husband, Mike Krecklow of Grand Island and Stacy Phillips and special friend, Bob Bishop, of McCook; two sisters, Donna Tolliver of Elmwood and Helen and husband, David Webb, of Longmont, CO; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Nebraska Heart Institute.

Visitation will be Wednesday until 5:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9-8:00 p.m. Family will greet friends from 5-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may go online at www.carpenterbreland.com

Funeral services will be Friday, September 10, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Grand Island Cemetery on East Stolley Park Road at 3:00 p.m.
