Biography

Edith Syble Wing, 84, died Tuesday (Jan. 13, 2004) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born June 30, 1919, in McCook to Edward and Eleanor (Sisson) Parsons. Her mother died three weeks later. Edward married Lucy Edwards who became a wonderful mother to Edith.

Edith attended school near the Cornell community and also in McCook. She received her GED in 1973.

In November of 1937, she married Roy High in McCook. Their son was born in August of 1938 and a short time later they moved to Colorado. A daughter, Gwen completed their family in 1941. The entire family was baptized in the Center, Colo., Methodist Church on April 6, 1947. Edith and the children moved back to McCook after Roy's death in 1949.

Edith married Alvy Wing in September of 1950 and they moved to Indianola. Alvy died in October of 1996.

She was a homemaker whose hobbies included: decorating wedding cakes, sewing, handiwork and gardening. She enjoyed art classes and wall papering for neighbors. She was a Girl Scout leader and active in volunteer work. She also was a caregiver to her father-in-law for many years.

She was a member of the Indianola Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, VFW and Fireman's Auxiliaries.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother; her husbands, Roy and Alvy; and two granddaughters.

Survivors include her son, Don High and wife, Caron of Indianola; her daughter Gwen and husband, Bill Davis of Trenton; a brother E. Olan Parsons and wife, Ruby of Wichita; 10 grandchildren, Monte High and wife Elizabeth of Fort Collins, Colo., Kyle High and wife, Diana of Farmington, N.M., Anthony High and friend, Tia of Indianola, Barbara and husband, Dennis Reed of Gretna, Steve Sughroue and special friend, Jocelyn Carmichael of McCook, Connie Sughroue of McCook, Kent Sughroue and wife Deena, of Kearney, Christina and husband, Steve Struebing of Kearney, Julie Sughroue of Silver Spring, Md., and Kara Sughroue of McLean, Virginia; 13 great-grandchildren, Danen and Kalem High, Elissa and Andrea Arterburn, Amie and Adam Sughroue, Elizabeth, Alexa and Mike Reed, Amanda and Megan Sughroue, Lauren and Kari Struebing and a multitude of other family and friends, including Dan Arterburn and Robert Sughroue.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m., at the Indianola United Methodist Church with Pastor David Rowe officiating. Burial will be in the Indianola Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Wednesday until 6 p.m and Thursday until 8 p.m. at the Carpenter Funeral Home in Indianola.
